Antoine Griezmann was once again sensational for Orlando City. The Frenchman recorded two goals and an assist as the Lions beat DC United 4-1. It's a crucial result that sends Orlando 5 points above the line. Griezmann now has 12 goals and 6 assists in just 14 MLS matches. His quality and winning mentality were on show in this six pointer as he was all over the field.
Photo via MLSSoccer.comIn a massive match at the top of the East, it was Ethan Kohler and the Revolution defense who took over as New England beat Chicago 1-0. This marks just the third time all year Chicago haven't scored in a match. A lot of this is down to the defensive work of Ethan Kohler. The young American was outstanding, constantly sniffing out danger and getting his body in front of the ball. His interceptions, timely tackles, and big time blocks helped maintain a pivotal clean sheet for the Revs.
Photo via The Blazing MusketMartín Ojeda scored one of the goals of the season against DC United. Receiving the ball on the left, Ojeda played a 1-2 with Atuesta as he drove towards the box. He passes it with his first touch to Taifi, who shifts the ball to Griezmann. The French icon chipped a through ball into Ojeda, who had continued his run. The ball was a little behind the Argentine, and in a moment of stunning ingenuity, Ojeda performed a flying scorpion kick with his weak foot that curled the ball into the bottom corner. It was an extraordinay goal that showcased nice combination play and a moment of immense individual quality from Martín Ojeda.
André Luiz is special. Down 0-2 in the 25th minute, Luiz was played down the line in a transition opportunity. Luiz picked up the ball in his own half and was confronted by two RSL defenders. Showing his strength and speed, the Brazilian split the two and carried the ball down the field while warding off challenges from both opponents. He checked up his run and found Taylor Calheira, who calmly found the back of the net. It's anothing electric run from Luiz, who can single handedly flip a game on its head.
In the Hell is Real derby, the Columbus Crew generated just 0.08 expected goals from open play. They scored their first from a set piece, and then converted their second on the only real chance that they created from open play. Columbus set themselves up to defend and play in transition in this game, and it was very effective. They were ruthless when given the chance and won the game 2-0. Over the last 2 games, they have generated over 8 expected goals, which is astonishingly high. If they can continue to win with this low block, Columbus could prove to be a multi-dimensional team that can beat you in multiple ways, making them a threat if they are able to make the playoffs.
